Use AirPods as hearing aid

It is possible to use your iPhone as a microphone with APPLE IOS. You can hear the sound being recorded by your AirPods. A real hearing aid is not, of course, but according to Apple, this option helps if you have trouble, for example, to understand your partner in a busy restaurant or the teacher at a college.

Passbook Technology

USB Hacking Protection

Apple's new ' USB restricted Mode ' requires entering your PIN as soon as you connect a USB accessory to an iPhone.

If you do not enter the correct PIN, the accessory is not connected. It's a blow to creators of hack tools like Cellebrite and gray shift that make USB devices that allow you to break into phones. The feature is enabled by default in the current beta version of APPLE IOS.

Automatically enter SMS codes

Do you have the Tweestapsverificatie security option enabled? The chances are that sometimes you have to enter an SMS code to access your account. These SMS codes now fill IOS itself: saves you what numbers and characters remember.

Multiple faces for FaceID

The iPhone X recognizes only one face with the current IOS: that of the owner. With APPLE IOS, it is possible to add a second face, just like multiple fingerprints, so that your partner can unlock your phone with his or her face, for example.

Favicons in Safari

Many iPhone users have been waiting for this feature: Favicons, the small icons that allow you to recognize a website in tabs, such as the green z icon on RTL z, come to Safari. That way, you can recognize the websites in your tab overview more quickly, especially if you have lots of tabs open.

Faster apps close on iPhone X

Closing Apps on the iPhone X went a bit cumbersome: you had to swipe up, then press a second on an app and then click the X. Now you can swipe up the apps to exit. However, be aware: by continually closing apps your iPhone will no longer be with you, but possibly even shorter.

Easier Scan QR Codes

You can scan QR codes with the camera app. Many people don't know that yet, and that's why Apple built a QR-button that you can add to your Control Center. That way you have a handy shortcut for the label that you need to scan such a code.

Extending The Brand

Lately, I've noticed lots of companies going into new areas - extending their brand. Which is a pretty smart thing to do, given demographic trends. Here are some of the more interesting examples:

Toyota is making a wheelchair, the TAO-Light II, from car parts. Japan’s population is aging rapidly, and Toyota views the demographics as a growth opportunity, and not with fear. Speedo - From Learned on Women: Traditionally male-centric/hardcore sports brand, Speedo, readjusting its focus to include women beyond super-athletes, by way of a little more lifestyle-oriented approach.

The brand has been extending via footwear and women's non-swim fashions for a few years, but they are attempting to make a bigger splash now (pun simply could not be avoided) with the help of a new spokesmodel, Olympic medalist swimmer, Amanda Beard.

Nintendo - however, I wouldn't call it so much a brand augmentation as a reevaluating of what constitutes a video game. Cabel's Blog LOL composes: So, the #1 amusement in Japan is a non-diversion. Of course, just because you're trying to extend your brand doesn't mean you'll be successful. Andrea Learned cautions: It is terrifying to think you may disappoint your core market and become too "lightweight" or dilute the brand in their eyes, to gain sales/brand recognition by way of lifestyle offerings.

What heartens me is that so many different companies in different realms are trying to imagine new uses and new audiences for products - I think that's creative thinking. I would say outside the box thinking, but there is no box.

I Love My Shrinky Dinks

I am a big fan of VH1’s “I Love…” series, such as “I Love the 80s,” and “I Love the 80s… Strikes Back”. Unfortunately, I missed one of the recent installments, “I Love Toys, “ which aired earlier this month. (You can read all about it here.) Moreover, you can make money for all of this. VH1 counted down the top 100 toys of all time, a list the producers arrived at through “online voting, sales, historical significance, and longevity.”

The Top 100 Toys is a trip down memory lane: Magic 8 Ball, Spirograph, Baby Alive, Color Forms, Operation, Shrinky Dinks (To see numbers 100-11, click here. Band noise has the top 10 here.) The top 5 toys of all time? Hula Hoop, Barbie, Lego, G.I. Joe, and Mr. PotatoHead.

What struck me as I looked down the list was how few of these top 100 toys need a battery, let alone a microchip. In fact, only 7 toys on the list are electronic or computer-related: Pong (#96), Remote Control Cars (#92), Walkie Talkies (#71), Gameboy (#50), Mattel Classic Football (#37), Nintendo (#21), and Atari (#20).

However, a full 75% of the new toys featured at the 2006 Toy Fair had some microchip in them.

Will today’s toys stand the test of time? How many new toys are destined to become classics? I do believe that sometimes, less is more. Crayola Crayons (#28), Lite Brite (#25), and Etch-a-Sketch (#16) are likely to provide many more hours of entertainment for my daughters than an electronic fake cell phone with prerecorded messages.

These simpler toys stimulate creativity and provide endless possibility, while canned electronic toys can become rote and repetitive. Board games such as Trivial Pursuit (#79), Scrabble (#18), Candy Land (#70) and Battleship (#30) are fun even in their most stripped-down, low-tech versions.

I am not knocking technology – I couldn’t live without TiVo, blackberry and cell phone. However, I think there is still plenty of room in our modern world for some non-electronic mainstays, and am glad to see these toys being recognized and cherished.

The Future of Fun

I'm just back from 5 days in California. And I am theme-parked-out. I took three ten year old girls to both Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood. I always keep my ticket number in my iphone using passbook. You can find some alternative apps in this reviews.

As I sat on some rides and sat out other rides, I realized that theme parks are still based on a one-way entertainment model. You ride, we'll tell you what to look at and what to do.

They are making moves in the right direction. Universal had a Fear Factor Live that you could audition for and appear in that day. Disney has a Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters ride where you fire laser cannons as you spin your star cruiser. Unfortunately the lines were too long and we missed it.

I think a lot of the problem is that these attractions take forever to design and build. So they don't stay up-to-date very long. And with the world of entertainment and technology changing so rapidly, I wonder what will happen to the venerable theme park?

What actually made me think about all this was this website (via kottke.org) - Street Wars: Killer. Street Wars is a round-robin, all city, 24/7 water-gun assassination tournament starting next week in New York City. It works like this:

Toward the beginning of the amusement you will get a manila envelope containing the accompanying:

Endless supply of these things, your (or your team's) mission is to discover and slaughter (by method for water weapon, water inflatable or super soaker) your target(s).

You can chase your objective down any way you see fit; you can act like a conveyance individual and jack them when they open the entryway, mask yourself and take them out in the city, and so forth.

On the off chance that you are effective in your death endeavor, the individual you executed will give you their envelope and the individual they should murder turns into your new target. This proceeds until the point that you work yourself through every one of the players and recover the envelope with your (or your team's) picture(s) and name(s). At that point you win. Money… yet first live in fear.

Interactive- involves a lot of people. Cheap ($10). Most of all FUN. This type of organized activity is the FUTURE OF FUN - and theme parks seem like dinosaurs in comparison.

Attention must be Mine

Excellent post at O'Reilly Radar about Linda Stone's talk at Supernova 2005. I feel like she read my mind - because, in an era of new persuasion, we live with contradiction.

- Innovation and technology has enhanced my life like technology in this article.

- Innovation has hurt my satisfaction.

- I give careful consideration to individuals when they converse with me when I am in gatherings when I work.

- I give careful consideration to what I'm doing, and I'm checking my gadgets or programming for different data sources.

- Innovation sets me free.

- Innovation subjugates me

"In 1997 I begat the saying 'ceaseless incomplete consideration.'

For almost two decades, continuous partial attention has been a way of life to cope and keep up with responsibilities and relationships. We've stretched our attention bandwidth to upper limits. We think that if a tech has much bandwidth, then we do, too."

She goes on to say that some companies have started email-free Fridays to simulate face-to-face conversations. I am all for that. I love all the information out there, but I'm also being crushed under its weight. I get to the point where I don't listen to my home voicemail for months at a time. I figure if it's essential I'll find out about it.

We tend to forget that our attention is a precious resource. It's mine, and I choose where to focus it. Technology makes us forget we have a choice because it's everywhere 24-7. Moreover, we need to appreciate when someone else gives us their full attention - I think Linda Stone is right when she says "The aphrodisiac of the future will be full attention."

Care technology improves quality of life

In the series on changes in the elderly care this time attention to care technology.

For example, Brabant has care Zora, a care robot that brings people with dementia in motion and transport. Zora communicates-through an iPad with residents, sings, and dances. She has a tremendous appeal, explains care manager Desiree Bumper from Joachim & Anna in Veghel. "That's wonderful to see."

Mobility

Other examples: GPS transmitters that give people with dementia more freedom of movement, image watches, cameras and devices that send out a signal and medicines, so people don't forget them.

Care Technology
